SF Giants Rumors

Giants Interested In Jason Bartlett?

By Bryan Rose

Carl Crawford might not be the only Tampa Bay Ray on the Giants radar. According to MLBTR, the Giants (among a few other squads) are interested in trading for Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett, who struggled mightily last season but has a proven track record.

Bartlett could only manage a .254 average last season and sub-par play defensively, but, he’s a career .281 hitter and has routinely been in the above average echelon of defensive shortstops (although he’s been on the decline defensively almost yearly).

The 2009 AL All-Star (and local product) is a prototypical Sabean type pickup, a once high quality talent coming off a career low season and could be a solid replacement if the Giants are unable to retain Juan Uribe.
