If the playoffs started today, this would be your match-up. The San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves. So, there might be a few of us from both sides looking at this series a little more closely than normal.
In addition to two potential playoff teams going at it, two of the possible National League Rookie Of The Year candidates will battle tonight in Jason Heyward and Buster Posey. All in all, it’s can’t miss baseball in early August.
Yesterday’s game in Colorado was a tough one – but just chalk it up as one of those games. Madison Bumgarner had a bit more issues with his control than he normally has, resulting in a pretty short outing per his standards. No reason to watch him struggle and add more innings onto that arm when it was clear he didn’t have it and the opposing starter did. And speaking of that opposing starter, the U-man was on his game. He had most Giants looking pretty silly up there, though a few like Aubrey Huff, Pat Burrell, and Buster Posey all challenged him pretty well.
Those short two game series are never fun and almost always go the way of a split, so getting out of Colorado with a victory is nothing to frown upon. The Rockies are one of the best teams in the Major Leagues at home.
Speaking of elite home teams, yep – you guessed it – the Atlanta Braves. The Braves come into tonight’s contest with a 36-14 home record, the best in the Majors. So with that said, I’d be thrilled with a split in this four game set. A .500 trip considering who the Giants played and where they played this trip would be nothing short of solid, maybe even better.
Chop em up.
