Where The Giants Offense Doesn’t Suck? Or Does It?

If I asked you to name the top three hitting teams in the National League, what would your answers be?

Cincinnati Reds? Sure. They’ve got a ton of offense and play their home games in a park the size of a kids juice box.

Los Angeles Dodgers? Pretty much a given. From Kemp to Ethier to Manny, the Dodgers offense is solid from top to bottom.

San Francisco Giants? Say what? The anemic, can’t score a run to save their life Giants? Yep. That’s right. The San Francisco Giants currently sit third in the National League in team batting average behind the two above mentioned squads, hitting at a .266 clip (just fractions out of second place). The problem with that stat is the Giants sit in 11th out of 15 when it comes to scoring runs and12th in RBI. The Giants are average or better than average in all the other “main” offensive categories such as OBP%, SLG%.

Despite the Giants stronghold on hitting for average, for whatever reason, their knees buckle and their stomach turns if there happens to be a fellow Giant on 2nd and/or 3rd. The .266 hitting Giants drop all the way down to .244 when there is a runner in scoring position – ranking them 14th out of 15th in the National League. To compound that, the Giants drop all the way to last in the league when it comes to hitting with runners in scoring position if there happens to be two outs – a vomit inducing .210. Compare that to the league leading Cincinnati Reds who are clubbing a whopping .284 with runners in scoring position and two outs.

More ironic than anything however is the Giants ability to hit with nobody on base. The Giants lead the league in hitting with nobody on base, hitting a scorching .284 – the second place Milwaukee Brewers can only counter with a .276 clip.

So Giant fans – how do you fix this if you’re Bruce Bochy/Brian Sabean. Is a trade needed? Is it the constant musical chairs in the lineup? Is it the just the way things are? There has to be an answer for this, right? RIGHT!?!?!?
