Karma Strikes Giants & Strikes Hard

By Bryan Rose

I’m not really sure what to say about that game. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those.

The Giants received more than their beneficial share of calls and oddities on Monday night, so, it was only right the baseball god’s bestowed a big can of karma kick ass to the Giants on Tuesday.

Joe Martinez did not pitch as poorly as his stat line would say. In fact, I’m thoroughly convinced that the O’s put some type of radar avoidance detection devices in the balls prior to the game. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so many routine ground balls find holes. It was one after the other. Just feet away from a fielding glove. And the few times it actually found a glove? It was just far enough away that the Giant infielder couldn’t grab it cleanly. Martinez clearly had his sinker working all night – he was getting solid ground ball after solid ground ball. They just somehow were perfectly positioned to avoid any Giants infielder.

On the offensive side, the Giants looked pretty blah. They were a bit swing happy and Jake Arrieta, the O’s rookie starter, tossed a pretty nice game. It was just…one of those games. The Giants could have played a lot better all around – offensively and defensively, but, every once in a while…these weird games happen.

Giants have a get-away day and a 12:45 start before hoping a plane to Oh Canada for Friday’s tilt with the Blue Jays.
