Buster Posey

What To Do With The Giants Infield Problem?

By Bryan Rose

So, come Wednesday evening, Edgar Renteria will return from the disabled list and possibly without a starting job. Is it fair? Well, you’re not supposed to lose your job due to injury – but is it the right move? Hard to argue against that…

With Buster Posey playing so well, the Giants are now forced into a situation in which one of their infielders is going to sit nightly. It really shouldn’t be Buster Posey – he’s proven to be the Giants best hitter. And while Pablo Sandoval has struggled, he’s still Pablo Sandoval – despite being a double play magnet. What about Freddy Sanchez? Well, while there is little power, he might just be the Giants second best true hitter and the Giants lack anybody that can hit in the two-hole. So that leaves Juan Uribe. You know, that guy that leads the Giants in RBI and home runs.

What does all this mean? Well, one would assume that Renteria would simply be a bench player/spot starter, despite his nice start to the season. But as we all know, Bruce Bochy has a clinging hard-on for his stable of veterans and does everything possible to get them action – even if they’re colder than a well diggers ass.

So, let’s assume you’re managing the G-Men…what do you do with Renteria?
