According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants are in the “early talking stages” about a minor league contract with current free agent Pat Burrell. Burrell, other than two seasons in his 10 year career, has pretty much always been a .250-ish type hitter with some solid pop. More or less, he fits the Giants perfectly. :\
Burrell, who was released by the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month, struggled in the American League and hopes to return to the NL where he had his best years (and only years, prior to signing with the Rays in 2009).
Don’t really care for the move – despite his one time power (which he hasn’t show in about two years)…the last thing we need is another .250 hitter with poor defense.
Update: It appears that Burrell will sign with the Giants this weekend(ish) if no other offers come his way. I wouldn’t worry there, Pat…
