Giants Avoid Mets Sweep – End Road Trip 4-2

By Bryan Rose

Jesus Christ….those are the only words that I can find to not only describe the three game set with the Mets, but especially this afternoon’s game. I think Kruk & Kuip said it best: “Giants baseball: torture”.

Yet, despite the horrific three game stretch in Flushing, the Giants (thanks to their sweep of the Marlins to start the series) head back to the Bay with a 4-2 road trip, one that is almost impossible to complain about. Almost.

As for today’s game, I’m not sure I can describe it accurately without using words that are banned in most countries around the world. The wind for this three game stinker was only rivaled by Candlestick, and even the whirling winds of the Stick might have found some envy in the dirty tricks played on the fielders this weekend. There were more pop up dances than at a high school prom – more dropped balls than a porn set. One of which nearly cost the Giants the game today before Aaron Rowand reached into his army of tight pants and proceeded to drape himself in his Superman costume which he brought along for the entire trip.

From a game saving catch – to multiple game saving home runs, Rowand was the Giants offense and defense (for the most part) during this six game stretch. I’ve never been a huge Rowand fan but he certainly earned his paycheck and more, at least for these six games. It still didn’t help me from calling him a motherfuc…err, Happy Mother’s Day bastard as he hacked his way to every outside slider – but – he came through in nearly every clutch situation – and did so with fireworks of drama.

The Giants have a “travel” day Monday and will open up a series with the first place San Diego Padres Tuesday evening at the Park. The Padres will come into the Bay winners of 2 of 3 versus the Houston Astros, their lone loss coming this afternoon in extra innings.
