Giants Leave The Bay 7-2, Takes Series Versus Pirates

By Bryan Rose

The Giants offense did well again yesterday afternoon, ending the six game homestand with a 4-2 record. The bats were alive all day and Jonathan “Dirty” Sanchez was absolutely money, giving up three hits and striking out 11 in 8 innings. Sanchez once again teased Giant fans with his potential, matching his career high in strikeouts (which he set in his no hitter versus the Padres last year).

The highlight of the game though had to be Aubrey Huff’s inside the park homerun. Huff cracked a moonshot out into right center field that bounced off the wall in a very strange fashion. Garrett Jones had no chance to recover the ball as it trickled more towards second base, but, the Pirates had no shot at Huff as he motored around without a play at the plate.

The Giants have an off-day today but will be traveling south to play their hated rivals, the Dodgers, for a weekend series.

Friday night the Giants will send Todd Wellemeyer to the mound, Saturday (a Fox national game) will see Tim Lincecum and the series finale on Sunday will present Barry Zito.

The Dodgers, for all their worth, have been scuffling to start the season, sitting at 3-5 and tied with the Padres for last in the division.
