Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News believes Freddy Sanchez (knee, shoulder) will begin the 2010 season on the disabled list – something we’ve all expected even though the Giants refused to admit it.
Freddy isn’t expected to pick up a bat for at least another week and the Giants certainly don’t want to rush him. He underwent a shoulder procedure in late December and had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee back in late September. It’s expected that superman, err, super utility man Juan Uribe will man second until Freddy returns.
Of course, they could have just avoided this whole fiasco and saved themselves 12 million bucks and a highly regarded pitching prospect by never trading for him in the first place. But, that makes too much sense.
In other news, the Giants take the field as a team for the first time today and open up their first Spring Training game with Tiny Tim Lincecum taking the mound.
