Recap: A Giant Fail

Positives? Madison Bumgarner looked pretty nice, all be it, against the Padres. His fastball isn’t there yet and he’d get knocked around pretty good once teams figured him out, but, he looked very promising for a 20 year old and will make the Giants staff incredibly deep with Lincecum, Cain, and Sanchez in the future. But, he needs a year in AAA for the most part.

Moving on…

Last night’s game was awful. To blow a lead…and lose a game to the Padres like this at home was crushing. In a matter of about 5 minutes, the Giants went from potentially 4.5 games back of the Dodgers to 6.5 as the Giants blew their lead and then the Diamondbacks did the same over the Dodgers. All in all, whatever slim chance the Giants had of potentially catching the Dodgers is gone.

So now that leaves the Rockies three full games ahead of the Giants with only 23 games to play. An impossible climb? Not in the least bit. But daunting. The Giants still face the Rockies this coming Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday but still have 6 games with the first place Dodgers as well as another 3 in San Diego against the Padres –  a place where they have trouble winning and a team who is already 8-6 versus the Giants this year.

Are playoff hopes gone? Not yet. But if I’m a betting man – I might take the odds of Jeff Kent being Bonds’ best man before that happens.
