Giants Keep Winning – Rockies Keep Winning – And Buster Posey…

Good news? The Giants keep winning. They’ve won 3 out of 4 (2 of those on the road), are playing the woeful Padres (no jinx!), and are 14 games over .500.

Bad news? Everything I just said, the Rockies are doing – and doing so just a little better.

The Dodgers? Well, they’ve been about a .500 club since the All-Star break and the Rockies and Giants continue to creep closer and closer, but with only 24 games remaining, time is slowly running out for either team to catch the NL West leaders.

All three teams will battle each other at least once here in the final few weeks, the Dodgers and Rockies both come to town this week starting Thursday, so it’s going to be a very happy or very sad week and a half depending on the results.

Nothing like September baseball….

And recent Giants call-up and #6 prospect in all of baseball, Buster Posey wouldn’t know. Posey has yet to play in a game since his call-up from AAA Fresno. The Giants led the Padres 9-2 going into the 9th inning yesterday when Bruce Bochy decided to replace Bengie Molina with………….Eli Whiteside.

There would have been no better time to have the young catcher make his Major League debut. He’s at home…with a 7 run lead…no pressure of a passed ball or a wild pitch…

But no. He continues to sit. And wait.

When is it going to be Buster Time?

Onto the game: Tim Lincecum takes the mound tonight against one time Giant Kevin Correia. The Giants project to get 6 more starts out of Lincecum this season, if he stays on schedule. Tim’s going to need at least 4 wins out of those 6 to have a legit shot at the Cy Young award (which he deserves….again) with the importance of wins bullshit factored into the award.
