It was a masterful debut for new Giant Brad Penny. Going up against one of the most high powered offenses in baseball, Penny tossed 8 shutout innings against the Phillies last evening, leading to an eventual 4-0 winning. Jeremy Affeldt came in and closed off the 9th inning.
The scoring started with a two out single from Andres Torres which plated Nate Schierholtz. Torres had quite a battle with Phillies starter J.A. Happ, fouling off ball after ball in a lengthy 3-2 situation until he finally drove one back up the box. The following inning, Juan Uribe hit a moon-shot home run into the left field bleachers that nearly clipped the second deck which also scored Ryan Garko. Aaron Roward was the next batter and he hammered the pitch just over the left field wall, making it the 4th time this season the Giants have went back-to-back. It was also the final run for either side as the Giants blanked the Phillies 4-0 infront of a stunned Philly crowd.
Tim Lincecum gets the start today against Pedro Martinez.
Note: If you didn’t notice yet, the Giants purchased the contracts of LHP Dan Runzler and C Buster Posey from Triple-A Fresno
