Preview: Giants Hope To Roll Some Phillies

By Bryan Rose

It’s going to be a tough series. The Phillies are good. They’re stacked with nasty left handed bats. And we’re playing in the sandbox known as Citizen’s Bank Park. On the bright side, we might actually score more than two runs a game.

Tonight, Jonathan Sanchez will oppose local pool boy Cole Hamles in a lefty on lefty battle, and a match-up that should set the tone for the series. Tomorrow, Brad Penny will make his Giants debut which will be followed by Tim Lincecum on Thursday. Lincecum was scheduled to pitch tomorrow, however, after throwing 127 pitches in his last outing the Giants brass decided to move his start back one day to allow his arm more healing time.

Hitter to watch: Ryan Howard – Howard struggled in the Phillies trip to San Francisco at the end of July, going just 2 of 15. However, with the summer temps rising, Howard has 11 homers in his past 15 games.

Note – Unless Philly gets screwy on us, we SHOULD miss Cliff Lee in this series…
