Butthurt closer Brian Wilson did the one thing you don’t do to Giant fans – claim he wants to play for the enemy. It’s bad enough when any Dodger or Giant switches sides, but when it’s somebody who’s been as important to the heart and soul of the said franchise like Wilson has been? That just digs the knife that much deeper.

September 22, 2012; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants injured pitcher Brian Wilson (38) celebrates with mascot Lou Seal after the Giants defeated the San Diego Padres to win the National League west division at AT&T Park

Still, despite Wilson’s apparent interest in pitching for the Dodgers – the feeling isn’t mutual according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times:

Though the Dodgers won’t publicly comment on free agents, people familiar with team officials’ thinking say they aren’t looking to sign Wilson.

Wilson’s supposed beef with the Giants is the fact they wont put financial faith into him, but given the situation, most teams that Wilson would want to play for aren’t going to either. Upper echelon teams don’t have an extra six, seven, eight million dollars laying around to offer an eccentric closer with arm issues, who has yet to prove he could pitch again. Could he get a bit more financial security from a team trying to capitalize on his name and oddball style? Certainly. But I don’t think Wilson wants to go through a 75 win season either.

This isn’t to say Wilson can’t return to form – it’s just an unknown and unfair as that is, he has to come to terms with it. He’ll have a difficult time finding a better scenario than he has in San Francisco. From his role within the organization to financials to his popularity with the fan base – San Francisco is the place he should pitch, I just hope he realizes that before it’s too late.

Facing what seem to be turning into semi-ugly contractual disputes with the Giants, the bearded one has dug the knife in the back of Giants faithful – at least according to Yahoo’s Tim Brown.

Hearing Brian Wilson‘s first choice to pitch in 2012 — outside of SF — is for the Dodgers. He lives in LA during offseason.

Seeing Brian Wilson elsewhere would be shocking enough, but in Los Angeles? I’m not sure who’d be more appalled – Dodger or Giant fans.

Wilson, who many speculate will be non-tendered by the Giants before Friday’s deadline will also have the lure of other teams in search of a closer, like his beloved Boston Red Sox in addition to the Dodgers, but no matter who shows interest – it appears the interest is out there.

It’s hard to think a team would give Wilson much more than the incentive laden deal the Giants had planned to, but with apparently hurt feelings in the mix, the one time almost assured deal is looking less and less likely.
