Two All Star Games will be going on that involve Giants prospects: in New Jersey, the low-A South Atlantic League (SAL) will feature six players from the Augusta Greenjackets, the Giants Low-A affiliate; and in San Jose, the high-A California League will take on the Carolina League, and fans in San Jose will get to see eight of the Baby Giants participating in the hometown All Star Game. A list, and some stats from the players representing the Giants.

SAL All Star Game

RHP Martin Agosta (2nd round draft pick, 2012) — Three of his last four outings have seen him tack on seven innings of at least seven strikeout ball, with less than five baserunners allowed, and no earned runs on his record. He sports a 1.97 ERA this season, and has been tabbed the starter.

RHP Tyler Mizenko (28th round draft pick, 2011) – The reliever hasn’t allowed a homer this year, with a strong .131 batting average against, and 0.61 ERA.

RHP Chris Stratton (1st round draft pick, 2012) — Has been hot and cold this year according to the box score, as the strikeouts are coming, but sometimes so do the hits. Still, he is averaging just under six innings a start for the Greenjackets.

3B Mitchell Delfino (20th round draft pick, 2012) — After no homers in 2012, Delfino has put up eight bombs, and still has had time for ten doubles and three stolen bases.

SS Matt Duffy (18th round draft pick, 2012) — The Long Beach State product has a solid .298/.410 AVG/OBP going with fourteen SB.

Coach Hector Borg

Cal League vs. Carolina League All Star Game

LHP Ty Blach (5th round draft pick, 2012) — Has walked eight batters all season in twelve starts, with sixty-three strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA. Also has an incredible 1.28 ERA in night games vs. a 5.64 ERA in day games.

LHP Edwin Escobar (International signee) — Like Stratton, Escobar is hot and cold, getting plenty of strikeouts, but never going longer than six innings. Especially with Escobar, I expect there’s more going on here than what I can take out of the stat sheet.

LHP Josh Osich (6th round draft pick, 2011) — His second year in San Jose, the reliever has had a few bad outings that have blown up his ERA to 2.02, and has a 43/7 K/BB ratio going.

RHP Hunter Strickland (18th round draft pick by the Red Sox, 2007) — The 24-year old was dominant in May, showing up in ten appearances with six baserunners allowed in eleven innings before landing on the DL.

1B Angel Villalona (International Signee) — Finally back in the Cal League in 2013, Villalona has clubbed fourteen homers in the hitter-friendly league.

3B Ryan Cavan (16th round draft pick, 2009) — Almost 26, Cavan is pulling off a .313/.355/.418 line for the Baby G’s.

OF Devin Harris (48th round draft pick, 2010) — Sixteen homers for Mr. Harris (25 years young), including a multi-homer game in his last game at Visalia.

C Jeff Arnold (26th round draft pick, 2010) — Another 25 year-old, Arnold has put together a nice line of .263/.369/.526 with nine homers.

Proud to officially be a San Francisco Giant. Time to get to AT&T park ASAP and win a ring! Thanks for the support #SFgiants

According to Baseball America’s slot value page, that is precisely at slot value, showing that the Giants definitely had Arroyo pegged as “their guy,” as opposed to look to save money on someone and spend the savings on other signings. Arroyo becomes the fourth pick of the Top 10 the Giants have signed including second rounder Ryder Jones, eighth rounder Tyler Horan, and ninth round pick D.J. Snelten.

The Giants are listed by Baseball America as being less than ten thousand dollars over their slot allotted money so far. What that means if that held (from Baseball America):

There are penalties for clubs that exceed their bonus pools: a 75 percent tax on a 0-5 percent overage; the loss of a first-round pick and a 75 percent tax for more than 5 and up to 10 percent; the loss of first- and second-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and the loss of two-first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent.

Right now they are just at the “75% tax” level. More to come on this signing as we hear about it.
