Well crap. What am I supposed to do now with that autographed Conor Gillaspie trading card I got off of EBay for .45 cents? I was told he was the second coming!1!1!!1!!!

I guess it’ll have to go in the trash heap, just like Gillaspie’s career with the Giants which lasted for 44 Major League at-bat’s in 29 games over parts of three seasons.

The 2008 supplemental draft pick (drafted 37th overall) could never find his way out of Frenso, despite hitting for a decent average for two straight years at the AAA level – although, playing in the offensively helpful PCL didn’t exactly say much for his numbers. Still, many had hoped that Gillaspie would eventually find his way to the big boy club but it wasn’t meant to be as the 25 year old was shipped to the Chicago White Sox yesterday afternoon.

The move didn’t get a ton of recognition, namely because, well, it was Gillaspie and on the eve of the Giants’ first Spring game of the year. In return, the Giants acquired right-handed pitcher Jeff Soptic who, at 21, struggled in A-ball last year though in fairness, you weren’t going to get a ton for the former Giants’ farmhand.

Gillaspie, who oddly enough made his Major League debut just 96 days after being drafted (the fourth fastest in Giants history) leaves the orange and black with a career .202 average and four RBI to go along with his lone round tripper.
