Because hey – when you’re days away from turning 36, coming off an injury plagued season where you only appeared in 52 games (mostly for a lone plate appearance) and had a woeful 2011 season prior to that, you’re a hot commodity.

Whatever the D’Backs see in Huff, I don’t know, but according to Jack Magruder, the D’Backs have interest in him as a bench bat:

In need of a backup corner IF, <s>#</s>Dbacks have made contact with Aubrey Huff, source said.

Somewhere, there’s a joke to be made about Huff and contact in there, but I prefer to stick with the old addage; <del datetime="2012-12-01T15:44:22+00:00">10-4</del> 3-4, Capin’.

In a 40-game stint with the Washington Nationals, Nady carried a batting line of .157/.211/.275 in 109 PA, with 6 extra-base hits, a stolen base, and 7 walks. In his transition from the Nationals’ farm system to Fresno, Nady saw his numbers spike from .150/.220/.184 with the high-A Potomac Nationals to .270/.343./528 with the Grizzlies.

In the three weeks since his last trip to San Francisco, Brett Pill has seen 15 games, going 16-for-62 with 7 XBH, including a 2-homer game against the Diamondbacks’ triple-A affiliate.

Fellow Grizzlie and right-hander Jean Machi, the only other player on the list not returning from the DL, will make his major league debut next month. Machi holds a 3.97 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 53 appearances, striking out 44 batters and walking just 17 in 56.2 IP. His track record is lengthy, with a full eleven MiLB seasons under his belt and almost a full two seasons in Fresno.
