It was a Matt Cain versus Stephen Strasburg pitching duel…and it really was a pitching duel for the most part. The starters pitched well, and both pitched for 7 innings. Cain gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits, and Strasburg gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits. It was what you would expect out of two of the best pitchers in MLB.

Fast forward to the bottom of the 9th. The score is stil 2-1, Nationals leading. The Giants are down to their last strike with Gregor Blanco at the plate and Andres Torres, pitching running for Buster Posey, on first base. Blanco proceeds to triple right over the head of Bryce Harper to score Torres and tie the game.

“With two outs and the tying run at first, you have to play the outfield so the ball doesn’t go over your head,” Soriano said in Spanish.

“It may not have been a catch-able ball, but if we’re positioned the right way, there might have been a different outcome. With two outs, I could tell my four-year-old son, ‘You know where you need to play,’ and he would go to the right spot to make the play. It’s not an excuse, and I’m not speaking badly about anybody, but I think that’s how you play the game.” via USA Today
