Hector Sanchez returns to concussion disabled list while rehabbing in Fresno

Hector Sanchez has returned to the disabled list for a concussion according to Andrew Pavlovic of San Jose Mercury News.

Sanchez took yet another foul tip off the mask on August 8th during a rehab game with the Fresno Grizzlies. He underwent more evaluations that determined he needed to go back on the DL.

Sanchez was initially placed on the DL on July 25th after a foul tip off the mask with San Francisco Giants. He’s only hit .196 this season, and the longer he is out, the more chance Andrew Susac has to continue impressing the Giants front office.

Given the rash of concussions, and the number of foul tips Giants catchers have taken this year, it will be interesting to see if the staff requires both Sanchez and Buster Posey to use a different kind of mask. Both Posey and Sanchez have said they prefer the hockey style mask to the old style mask.

Sanchez was placed on the 15-day disabled list this go around. Hopefully, he won’t have any lingering symptoms or have any permanent damage from the multiple concussions.
