Brandon Belt could be close to returning to the San Francisco Giants lineup, perhaps even as soon as this weekend according to Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News.
Belt took some swings today, could be cleared to play by the weekend, either with Giants or on short rehab assignment.

Brandon Belt is playing catch with Dave Groeschner. First baseball activity since concussion for Belt. — Alex Pavlovic (@AlexPavlovic) July 29, 2014
He passed the concussion test yesterday and it’s thought that he could travel with the team to New York this weekend to face the Mets, or be sent on a rehab assignment. Only time will tell.
No specific timetable for Belt’s return but he expects to fly to New York with team. If all goes well, could return during road trip.

Belt has been on the concussion DL since July 20th, his second DL stint of the season after breaking his hand earlier in the year. While he’s not been hitting well since his initial return (.167/.167/.333), if he can get back to playing and stay healthy, his bat can only help the struggling Giants as they head into the final two months of baseball in the middle of a playoff race.
In the meantime, the Giants did recall first baseman Travis Ishikawa today from Triple-A Fresno. However, it looks like Buster Posey will be seeing more time at first base than Ishikawa until Belt returns. Bochy wants to give Posey some rest, but not take his bat out of the lineup. Recently called up catcher Andrew Susac will be getting his first start tonight while Posey mans first base.
