Pre-game & lineups 5/31: San Francisco Giants and Yusmeiro Petit look for another win against the Cardinals

The Giants will face the Cardinals today in game three of four in Saint Louis at 11:15am PT. Yusmeiro Petit (3-2, 5.08 ERA) will make the start in place of Matt Cain who was moved to the 15-day DL until his strained hamstring is healed. Michael Wacha (3-3, 2.67) will make the start for the Cardinals..

This is Petit’s fifth start this season and he’s looking to bounce back and return to form. He threw six scoreless innings back on April 29, another emergency start he made for Cain. Petit is 2-2 with a 5.75 ERA in six career appearances (three starts) against St. Louis. The only current Cardinals that have faced him are Yadier Molina and Matt Holliday

Blanco has been on fire the last six games, he is batting .529 with three RBIs. Brandon Crawford needed a day off today as well so Ehire Adrianza will be at shortstop.  Pablo Sandoval has a .320 batting average in the month of May with 33 hits, 17 runs, 6 doubles, 6 home runs and 19 RBIs.

Wacha is a 22-year old RHP that was brought up last season to at 21-years old. In 2013, he was 4-1, with a 2.78 ERA. In 2014, left-handers are hitting .222 off him in 2014 and right-handers.224. The Giants have never faced him before.

After yesterday’s game, the Cardinals brought up Oscar Taveras, an outfielder from Triple-A Memphis, and top prospect. They placed Matt Adams (1B) on the 15-day DL (calf).
