San Francisco Giants Poll: Who Do You Want To See at First Base With Brandon Belt On The DL?

The Giants have lost Brandon Belt for the next 6-8 weeks at least with a broken thumb. We’re still waiting for the official news on any roster changes.

Will Hector Sanchez and Buster Posey platoon at first base? Will they move Michael Morse to the position he has more experience at? Maybe the Giants will decide to give Joaquin Arias more at bats and see if he can start hitting as consistently as he does in the month of August (when Pablo is usually on the DL)?

One idea that people are talking and hoping for, is the call up of Adam Duvall from Fresno. Duvall is an every day third baseman but has also spent some time at first base as well. He’s already on the 40-man roster and has been tearing it up in Fresno.

Although Duvall’s batting average has dipped to .259, he has an OBP of .329 and has hit 11 home runs with an OPS of .870 in Fresno. In comparison, Belt has a .269 batting average, .317 OBP with an OPS of .820.

The other obvious option would be to bring up Travis Ishikawa when he is off the DL with a injury injury. He was the Giants first baseman from 2006-2010 and holds a .265 batting average in his four years with the team.

Who would you like to see play first base? Take the poll below or feel free to post comments on your ideas. It’s unfortunate what happened to Belt last night but the Giants will get through this until his return.

Whilst I am voting Adam Duvall, Andrew Susac would be a close second!

    • Denise

I know, I can’t wait to see more of Susac but we won’t this year IMO. He’s not on the 40-man and Adam Duvall is. Neither is Ishikawa. I’m going to predict if anyone comes up it’s Duvall. Boch even mentioned it in the post game interview as well. We should know soon!! :)

I’d love to see Ishikawa but he’s hurt. Timing is everything. Besides, Travis is a known commodity, Adam Duvall is not. Might be nice to see what Duvall looks like at the MLB level. I do not ascribe to the theory that a player can be “rushed” to the bigs. Every player wants to get there. Let’s take a look at Duvall.

Do we know the extent of his jammed finger injury though? He could be back sooner than we think and that would be ideal given his experience. Until then we could almost rotate buster, hector, arias. keep pablo away tho, no more splits!! hahaa

Grizzlies said he’d be ready in a few days

        • Denise

looks like they don’t care, huh? Morse wins.

Huh. They didn’t consult us. I guess Duvall will have to wait.

          • Denise

i know, so rude, right? beat writers said he was heavily talked about though. it might be a good thing not to rush him up. til we kick pablo to the curb at least. lol

Gerald! Good opportunity to rest his knees. Keep him a little fresher. Ishikawa is at best average. The other kids should stay down and be seasoned just a bit longer. Plus you figure in the future Gerald will play a corner spot so it’s not the worst thing in the world to use him there for a bit.

    • Denise

HAHAHA!! Damn you dude! lol. Morse was just named as our everyday 1 baseman. I want to see Gerald at 3B when we don’t extend a contract to Pablo. Then bring Susac up from Fresno. Yeahhhh.

BRETT PILL!!!!!!!!! I’m booking my ticket to South Korea right now!

    • Denise

i already booked his back, we’re good.

      • Richard Guzinya

A little something on this one. If Brett Pill is the answer then I don’t want to know the question. I think they have it right at the moment.

        • Melissa Felkins

Brett Pill is always the answer! ;)

But yes, at the moment it’s working surprisingly well.

          • Richard Guzinya

Brett Pill will never be the answer.
The only concern would be Hudson right now but overall the Giants are in fine form.
