It’s time to pour some coffee, scramble up some eggs, and maybe make a piece of bacon or two and watch some San Francisco Giants baseball. The Giants and Pirates play the rubber game of their 3 game series this morning. First pitch is 9:35 PT so make sure you’ve shaken the cobwebs from that stunning finsh last night.
In case you missed it, the Giants lost the first ever game on a replay reversal. You can watch it again if you’d like. I’m still not convinced there was enough to change the call. Of note, it was the shortest replay review of a Giants challenge so far this season at 1 minute, 14 seconds.
It’s time to brush it off and move on. That’s the beauty of an everyday game. There’s always another chance. The Giants are still 21-12 with a 1 game lead over Colorado. The Dodgers are in 3rd place, 2 and a half games back. Last night’s game will not define a season.
The lineups for today’s game.

This morning RHP Tim Lincecum (2-, 5.12 ERA) starts for the Giants in hopes of winning this series. The Pirates counter with RHP Gerrit Cole (2-2, 3.69 ERA) who made his Major League debut against the Giants in Pittsburgh last June. That night Cole pitched 6.1 innings and held the Giants to 2 runs on 7 hits.
Recently Tim Lincecum’s outings have been pretty darn good. Over his last 4 starts Lincecum is 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA compared to his first two starts this season when he gave up 11 runs in 10 innings combined. He hasn’t lasted past the 6th inning yet this season, but with a rested bullpen that shouldn’t be an issue today.
The Giants haven’t homered in so far in Pittsburgh. It’s only the second time this season they haven’t hit a home run in back to back games. Brandon Belt has hit one in every park the Giants have played in this season so that streak is on the line. As expected, Buster Posey and Angel Pagan have been given the day off. Bruce Bochy said as much would happen after that marathon Monday night game.
#SFGiants will attempt to win their first series at PNC Park since April 26-28, 2011.
