The Diamondbacks currently sit 0-2 after their series in Australia against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last night, the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres kicked off NL West action on home soil, with the Padres winning 3-1. Here is all you need to know for the Giants opening series.

Paul Goldschmidt had a MVP calibre year in 2013, hitting 36 home runs and batting in 125 runners. Once more, in 2014, Goldschmidt will be a key player for the Diamondbacks and will be pivotal if the Diamondbacks are to succeed. Countering for the Giants, Hunter Pence and Buster Posey will be catalysts in the middle of the lineup. This matchup could potentially decide the series.
With Patrick Corbin injured, and Wade Miley not ready, the pitching match-ups are favoured towards the Giants. Madison Bumgarner will start his first ever opening day, and should well defeat Brandon McCarthy. Matt Cain and Miley will be a close duel before the two Tims will aim to close out the series for the Giants.
