Another piece came out today from MLBPipeline. MLBPipline release their Top 10 Prospects at catcher and Giants number 13 ranked prospect (According to MLB Prospect rankings) Andrew Susac has been ranked the #8 catching prospect in all of Major League Baseball.
8. Andrew Susac, Giants: Taken by the Giants in the second round of the 2011 Draft out of Oregon State, Susac reached Double-A in his second pro season, then capped it off with a strong Arizona Fall League showing. Susac’s numbers, especially in terms of power and on-base skills, improved with the move to Double-A. He’s always had a strong arm, and he threw out 40 percent of would-be basestealers in 2013. There isn’t a starting gig open in San Francisco, obviously, but he could soon be ready to back up Buster Posey.
This past season with AA Richmond, Susac batter .244 with 12 HR 46 RBI .362 OBP .458 SLG and .820 OPS in 84 games.
During this years Arizona Fall League, in 17 games, Susac had a .360 AVG. 2 HR 7 RBI to go along with .507 OBP .480 Slugging percentage for an OPS of .987 in 50 at bats.
Obviously the Giants already have their catcher in place and Susac will not be taking over the everyday spot, but he would make for a nice backup for when Posey needs a day off or is playing 1B.
Also, this week Jason Parks of Baseball Prospectus released his own Top 10 Giants Prospects. If you click on the link, in the below tweet, you will see that the list is very pitching heavy and Susac is the only position player on the list.
