The Giants have signed a few interesting players to minor league contracts this off-season. Here’s a little more information on the players (mainly pitchers) that signed minor league contracts with the team.
RHP Andrew Carignan - 27 year-old relief pitcher from the Oakland A’s who became a free agent on November 5, 2013. He is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in only 16 innings in the majors. In six seasons in the minors, he is 11-8 with a 2.92 ERA. He had Tommy John surgery in mid-2012 and in 2013 had surgery to repair labrum damage in his shoulder.
RHP Adam Reifer - 27-year old relief pitcher that hasn’t yet pitched in the majors. He spent 5 seasons in the Cardinals farm system and 2013 with the Marlins AAA team, the New Orleans Zephyrs. In six seasons, he is 13-15 with a 3.45 ERA.
RHP Casey Weathers - 28 year-old relief pitcher that has only pitched in the minors. He spent five years in the Rockies farm system and is 8-7 with a 4.69 ERA. He didn’t pitch in 2013. He also had Tommy John surgery in October 2008.
3B Mario Lisson - 29-year old from Venezuela who has played almost every position in the minors for the Royals from 2002-2012. In 2013 he played AAA in Mexico. In 10 seasons in the minors he holds a .257 BA with 101 HRs.
RHP Caleb Clay - 25 year-old pitcher that was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 2006 MLB Amateur draft. He has spent seven seasons in the minors as a starting pitcher. He is 26-33 with a 4.19 ERA.
SS Brandon Hicks - 28 year-old SS that has spent seven seasons in the minor leagues for the Braves, A’s and Mets. In those seven seasons he holds a .247 BA with 91 HRs.
RHP Jason Berken - 30 year-old pitcher that debuted in the MLB for the Orioles in 2009 and is 10-20 with a 5.36 ERA. He was with the Orioles from 2009-2012, in 2012 was claimed off waivers by the Cubs, and in 2013 signed a minor league contract with the White Sox. In 2013 in the minors, Berken went 12-12 with a 3.80 ERA.
