There is always something special about a splash hit. Pablo Sandoval hit the only water shot of the year for the Giants in 2013 and it happened on Mothers Days with a pink bat and pink shoes. Way to go Pablo.
The game was against the Atlanta Braves and the Giants were sitting a top of the NL West and the Braves were the division leaders for the NL East. This was an important game at the time. Beating another 1st place team would go well in showing that the Giants were again an elite team despite pundits who stated otherwise.
Sandoval hit an 84 miles per hour change up from Medlen that would give the Giants a 3-0 lead. The Giants would go on to win the game 5-1 as Tim Lincecum would get the win, allowing no runs on three walks and two hits in seven innings of work. I’m throwing in Lincecum’s stats to show that he was good against good teams during the year.
But this post is about the Panda and how he had good power at the beginning of the year and was an absolute beast with runners on base or in scoring position.
