There are some pretty ugly things in baseball. Catchers being blow up at the plate, Oakland Coliseum, Alex Rodriguez, the list can go on and on. The Miami Marlins have anything but artwork in center field of their new stadium. It doesn’t fit and I don’t know how else to explain. Take for instance the Giant Coke Bottle at AT&T Park. Could the park have been built without it? Yes. Does it fit the landscape of the baseball park even though it is an advertisement? Yes. So, even thought it was not necessarily needed for the ballpark, the used common sense to make it attractive to the surrounding areas.
Now lets use this same logic with the Miami Marlins stadium. Could the park have been built without it? Yes. Does it fit the landscape of the baseball park even thought it is NOT an advertisement? No. Perhaps the best way of saying this is: There were better alternatives to the monument that was built in center field of Miami. What does this have to do with the Home run countdown. Well, Hunter Pence a 459 ft bomb of the pitcher Tom Koehler and it went over the monstrosity that is the Marlins ballpark in Miami.
