In some of the least shocking news of the offseason – at least the early part of it, the Giants plan to offer Hunter Pence arbitration, this according to Jon Heyman:
not sure why this is being debated publicly. but the champion
#SFGiants will offer pence arbitration. $13-14M, 1 yr works
The move is all but a formality considering what the Giants parted with to get Pence, though given his stats with the Giants – it’s a tough financial pill to swallow.
That said, Pence is still a career .285 hitter with pop and those don’t come cheaply. Pence will essentially take over Aubrey Huff‘s mini-albatross of a contract (Huff was making $11 million dollars this past season) and will play for a long term deal, assuming he and the Giants don’t come to terms on a lengthy deal of their own.
