This afternoon, the Giants revealed their second wave of September call-ups. The list is brief:
Dan Otero began the season in San Francisco, but has not returned since a 7-game stretch in April. He completed his second full season with the Fresno Grizzlies on Monday, with a 3.12 FIP, 5.63 K/BB rate, and strand rate of 72.9% in 48 games and 62 IP.
Runzler, another Grizzlie reliever, has not made an outing for the Giants since the final game of the 2011 season. In 29 appearances and 27 IP in Fresno, he maintained a 3.39 FIP and 2.36 K/BB rate with 36 hits, 18 earned runs, and a single save.
After a six-week hiatus, Manny Burriss is packing up his .274/.342/.377 batting line, his -0.9 WAR, and… you know what, I can’t do this. Let’s just say that Burriss’s talents exceed the basic requirements of hitting and throwing baseballs, and this GIF (via @gidget) may be his most appreciated skill in September.
To accommodate this group of call-ups, the Giants have designated RHP Eric Hacker for assignment.
