It’s been a busy few days for the Giants in terms of roster moves, but it appears things will calm down for a while now that the Giants were able to activate backup catcher Hector Sanchez and reliever Shane Loux.
To make room, the Giants optioned Eli Whiteside and Justin Christian back to Fresno, leaving the Giants with just four true outfielders on the roster in Hunter Pence, Angel Pagan, Gregor Blanco and Melky Cabrera. Brett Pill could also play corner outfield in an emergency scenario.
Shane Loux, who was on the DL since June 26th with a neck strain pitched relatively effective for the Giants earlier in the year, with a few rough outings blowing up his ERA to 4.50 in 16 innings.
Pablo Sandoval meanwhile, who’s been on the DL since July 25th, will be eligible to be activated at the end of the St. Louis series, but the Giants may opt to give him an extra day before they return home to take on the Colorado Rockies on August 10th.
