San Francisco Giants To Pass On Jonathan Broxton?

Looking to find some bullpen help, especially at the back end with current closer Santiago Casilla untrustworthy, a handful of names have found their way into the rumor mill, few more than current Royal Jonathan Broxton. Eligible for free agency at season end and on a current club with enough young arms that could easily take over the closer role, the former Dodger has been dangled by the Royals with perceived interest coming from the San Francisco Giants. However, according to CBS’ Danny Knobler, that interest is dead:

Giants had some interest in K-Rod … until they saw him the other day. They don’t see Broxton as an answer.

With a very low K/9 rate and an elevated fly ball rate, despite the lack of homeruns given up, many scouts feel it’s just a matter of time until Broxton’s luck runs out. Apparently, the Giants aren’t interested in having that luck evaporate in the middle of a pennant race.

Hard to blame them.
