Yes, that’s right – the San Francisco Giants have three, count them, three, elected starters to this year’s Mid-Summer Classic. Buster Posey, Melky Cabrera and Pablo Sandoval have all been named as National League All-Star starters for the July 10th game in Kansas City. The three starters makes this the first time since 2001 that three Giants were elected to the game in a starting capacity. The Giants will have three of the eight positional starters in the game (nine, if you want to count the DH) and also the two highest vote getters for the entire league, Buster (7.6 million, an all-time record) and Melky (7.5 million). Melkmen and Melkmaids, unite.
Assuming there are injury replacements (as there always are) along with the pitching requirement rules (can’t start the final day of the first half), you could reasonably assume that Ryan Vogelsong will get the call for a second consecutive year as well, though, that remains to be seen. Managerial selections to the roster are still to come as these were only fan and player vote.
Either way, at minimum four Giants, three of them starters, is a great representation for the National League’s second best team (currently) and fans should get a well deserved pat on the back for their tireless voting.
