After being shut out in yesterday’s game against the Texas Rangers, the San Francisco Giants handed Ryan Vogelsong the ball and asked him to hold back what is considered the most potent lineup in baseball.

Vogelsong did just that, limiting the Rangers to one run on three hits over seven and two-thirds innings. The one run came on a Mitch Moreland pinch-hit homerun in the eighth inning.

The Giants scored a run in the third when Vogelsong singled, advanced on a balk and then a Gregor Blanco singled and then scored on what was seemingly going to be a double play ball. With Blanco at first, Theriot hit a ground ball to second baseman Ian Kinsler. Instead of running into the out, Blanco stopped and didn’t let Kinsler tag him. Unable to get Blanco, Kinsler threw the ball to first hoping to get Theriot. Kinsler threw the ball over first baseman Michael Young, Vogelsong scored and everyone was safe. The way Vogelsong was throwing the ball, it seemed that possibly one run was all the support the Giants needed.

However, in part thanks to three errors by the Rangers, the Giants tacked on four more runs. Ryan Theriot singled home Brandon Crawford in the fifth, Nate Schierholtz tripled in Angel Pagan in the sixth, Pablo Sandoval singled in Gregor Blanco in the seventh and Sandoval proceeded to score on a double by Angel Pagan.

This was Sandoval’s first game since being reinstated off the disabled list yesterday, and with Melky Cabrera listed as day-to-day with a hurt hamstring, Sandoval occupied the three spot in the lineup. He went 1 for 4 and did not have an error today, playing third base which had been occupied by Joaquin Arias.
