There are only a few instances in which Ryan Theriot being promoted to starter would make my baseball pants happy.
This is one of them.
Tired of Emmanuel Burriss‘ incompetent stick and suspect glove work, Bruce Bochy has apparently decided that Ryan Theriot will be given the second base job until a better option comes along, at least according to the Chronicle:
Ryan Theriot is off the disabled list, and he is going to see a lot of starts as Emmanuel Burriss tries to keep his average above the Mendoza line. Manager Bruce Bochy plans to play Theriot on Friday night, saying, “We need another bat in the lineup. He’s a proven hitter. … What’s going to be important for us is getting production everywhere.”
Theriot shouldn’t get too comfortable in the spot though, especially if he doesn’t produce immediately since Pablo Sandoval is only weeks away from a return, a return that should move Joaquin Arias to second.
Either way, it’s hard not to improve off of the nothing that Burriss has provided.
