The Giants called up Charlie Culberson Sunday morning from Fresno and he started today at second base. It’s not that much of a surprising move with Emmanuel Burris slumping terribly and with Ryan Theriot, Freddy Sanchez, and Pablo Sandoval on the disabled list. They also optioned Connor Gillaspie and his noodle arm back to Fresno, a move which will no doubt make the Giants faithful happy (if it’s possible to be somewhat happy at this point in the season). The good news is that Joaquin Ariassomehow learned how to play third base between now and Spring Training and is looking much better there than Gillaspie.
Culberson was batting .284 with five homers and 24 RBIs in 26 games in Fresno. He’s hitting 7th in the lineup today. While his numbers from Triple-A aren’t by any means scary, one can only hope he can be a little better than Burris and handle his glove at second base.
His ‘soon-to-be a mom’ wife was able to make the game today, as well has his proud parents and sister who hopped a flight from Atlanta this morning to make the game today.
Good luck out there today, kid!
