San Francisco Giants: Winter Meetings Day Two Recap

Well over half of the Winter Meetings is spent spreading rumors, debunking rumors, and agonizing over trades that don’t happen. Here is the one Giants trade that came out of today, and a lot of other moves that didn’t.

  • Mets outfielder Angel Pagan was acquired for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez. If you haven’t already, check out Bryan’s analysis of the “Crazy Horse” (Pagan’s nickname… fits in well with the other Giants animal memes, right?) in this post.
  • Names you won’t find on Sabean’s shopping list: White Sox OF Carlos Quentin, Red Sox IF Jed Lowrie, and Braves IF/LF Martin Prado. You can probably add Carlos Beltran to that list, considering that Pagan is the Giants’ third outfield acquisition this offseason.
  • Andrew Baggarly tweeted that Sabean is also not looking for a 3rd, 4th, or 5th place hitter. It seems that the only piece the Giants are lacking now is another starting pitcher.
  • Another trade is rumored to be brewing between an unspecified AL team and Jeff Keppinger. Keppinger, Torres, and Ramirez were the only three players mentioned as definite trade pieces during the Winter Meetings, so if all goes well, it’ll have been a productive week for the Giants. No word yet as to what Sabean might receive in return.

Stay tuned for Day 3!
