Since the Giants signed Javier Lopez to a two-year $8.5 million dollar deal, many did not believe that they would pick up the option for 2012 on their other left-handed reliever, Jeremy Affeldt.
But they proved all you wrong didn’t they! The San Francisco Giants picked up Affeldt’s $5 million deal for 2012, now having spent $9.25 million dollars in their 2012 bullpen. At the press conference at the end of the season, Brian Sabean said that pitching was the priority for the Giants this year, even with a very meager offense that many fans want upgraded.
As Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle mentioned, via Twitter, there is a possibility of the team exercising the contract and then working out a new deal.
