Giants Prospect Brandon Belt To Be Given Chance At Opening Day Roster

According to Giants manager Bruce Bochy, first baseman Brandon Belt “could make this club” out of spring training. Belt had an orgasmic first year of pro ball last season, “belting” (oh come on!) his way to  .352/.455/.620 averages with 23 homers, 43 doubles and 112 RBI.

If he did somehow make the roster, one could reasonably assume that he’d push Aubrey Huff into left field and turn the platoon of Pat Burrell and Mark DeRosa into a tandem bench duo.

It’ll be interesting to see exactly what the Giants do – Belt can hit. I’m talking he has the ability to be a Larry Walker type hitter at his pinnacle, but is he ready just yet?

Guess we’ll know in a few weeks.
