Giants Running Through Cactus League

Eight games into the Cactus League season, the Giants are 7-1 and sitting atop the league standings. If only it was April and it meant something.

There isn’t too much to talk about in the land of Giants right now…many Giants are taking precaution this spring, some not by choice. Emmanuel Burriss is still walking with the help of crutches after fracturing his big right toe in the Spring opener on the third. The Giants expect him to be in a boot for about four weeks…but it’s a serious hamper to his idea of breaking camp with the big league roster.

Mark DeRosa saw his first action of Spring on the 9th and promptly singled in his first at bat, going 1 for 2 on the day. The Giants are simply taking caution with DeRosa who could have played since the beginning of Spring Training if the games were regular season tilts.

In other news, ex Giants Orlando Cepeda, Willie Mays, Gaylord Perry and Felipe Alou all met up in Scottsdale earlier this week in some sorts of a reunion to catch up on old times as well as to speak to the Giants roster. A nice touch by the Giants upper management to let the history of the club be involved with the future.
